    The lake is love

This week started with me on a little camping/fishing retreat with another pastor - my friend, Roy.  Our camping spot was on Lake DeGray, about 20 miles outside of Hot Springs.  As I drove the hills and curves of Hwy 7 out there... and listening to the 80s radio station (you heard me)... The song "I Want to Know What Love Is" by Foreigner came on.  You know the chorus right?  I wanna know what love is.  I know you can show me.  It may sound weird to some people. but those words became my prayer for the retreat.  As I drove through the hills and the forest, I felt as if God was showing me what love is.  When I shared deep conversation with Roy, I felt like God was showing me.  Catching a bunch of fish (we actually stopped counting - be jealous!) showed me what love is.  Looking up at the moon from a boat in the middle of the lake showed me what love is.

And the lake itself.  Wednesday morning I was sitting on the shore, just staring at the water.  I looked at the lake and knew what love is.  Love is fluid - it moves.  Love can be calm, still, and as smooth as glass and love can come in waves.  Some waves are bigger than others.  The level rises and falls, but love is always there.  As beautiful as love is on the surface, there are things even more beautiful beneath the surface.  Love can quench my thirst.  Love can feed me.  Love is a place to play... and rest.  Love is new journey every morning.  Even when I seem to be in a drought, and love seems to disappear, it is still present in a different form... eventually it will rain down and fill me again.  Love wins!
